Project Summary:
UMClinicalStudies.org is the web application for the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research (MICHR), who facilitates a partnership between health researchers and volunteers in finding new methods to discover treatments for human diseases. As one of the few designers and UX representative of the company, I initiated usability and concept testing, conducted extensive research on user objectives, and analyzed content area and developed new platforms, as well as proposed novel business models in the recruitment of volunteers. One of the biggest impacts that I had on the organization was my efforts in analyzing 10 months of user log data in devising new business strategies and had successfully convinced the marketing team in the redesign of the entire UMClinicalStudies.org website, which I had further contributed during the past year, focusing on the dashboard, study posting features and a wizard-style web portal for study coordinators to manage studies.

Project Objectives Phase I:
As a usability auditor, my goal is to examine how effective does the system design matches with overall system incentives. Most importantly, I examined important contextual questions with the consideration of volunteer and researcher incentives in mind when evaluating the system. During this process, multiple stakeholders have been interviewed. Clinicians, health research staff, study coordinators, and volunteer participants are recruited and interviewed to better understand how they use the current system. The enrollment process of the site have been redesigned to better facilitate faster enrollment and better data input from the volunteers.
Project Objectives Phase II:
The second phase of my work is to redesign UMClinicalStudies.org. Design objectives and priorities aims to facilitate simple effective measures in accessing active participant, whom are eager in participating. Other objectives include designing effective methods in differentiating volunteers based on conditions and increasing notification of matches in a clear manner. Key deliverables include mock-up and process design, which involves rapid wireframing and quick iterations using prototyping tools such as Axure and InVision.

Learning Objectives:
I learned to accommodate to different user incentives in mind when designing the site. There resides a constant tension between different user objectives and a keen mind is needed to attend to the different dynamics when redesigning the site. I have also learned to use several wireframing tools in producing rapid prototypes for a quick reiterative process for user testing.
