Molly Maid iPad Application

Project Summary:

Molly Maid provides in-house estimation services on quotes prior to its cleaning services. Molly Maid is also seeking ways to improve the closing rate of its sales process. To this end, they intend to step outside the confines of the analog world (pen, paper, calculator, etc.) and move to a more sophisticated, digital solution – an iPad application. We designed an application that automatically calculates prices on-the-fly as the estimator moves through the house. We also aim to incorporate interaction engagement tools to feature media for customer consumption. Ultimately, we hope that this iPad application can help develop and maintain a professional image, thereby develop credibility, trust, and professionalism. For this project, I was both the client and instructor liaison, as well as the interaction designers and prototypers of this project.

Brainstorming process on key features and interaction

Whiteboarding key interactions and process flow

Reiteration of wireframes

Project Objectives:

The project aims to help estimators to calculate prices real-time, while achieving several promotional pitches simultaneously through an iPad application. We interviewed estimators, franchisees, and other related staff in gaining better understanding to their current workflows, and learn about what is working and what is not. The final design deliverable is an interactive prototype that will consider Molly Maid’s branding identity as well as platform conventions and best practices. The application will serve as a roadmap for estimators to improve Molly Maid’s sales.

Dividing work amongst team members and consolidating wireframe for review

Presentation to course instructor and classmates for feedback

Numbering use cases and keeping it consistent with wireframes

Launch prototype on iPad for usability testing with Molly Maid estimators

Our design solution will support for the following three activities:

  1. Before Walk-in: Function as a reminder of and tutorial for the things estimators need to keep in mind.
  2. Walk-in: Display relevant media to customers and enable estimators to take notes and calculate quotes in real-time.
  3. Closing-Sales: Shared information space between estimator and customer, where pitches can be given at this time.

Learning Objectives:

During this experience, I have learned two prototyping softwares (Axure and Adobe Fireworks). Moreover, I was involved in rapid prototyping sessions, where we reiterate as much as possible between mock-ups, wireframes and use cases to better formulate design concepts.
